The objective of a disentanglement puzzle is to free one piece of it. This is usually a ring or some other shape forming a loop. They are typically made from wire or string (rope) combined with wooden posts or beads.
I think it's amazing that you can spend hours with only two parts, trying to free the pieces from each other.

On this site you see some of my favorite disentanglements.

In the box was an easy Chinese-Ring-Puzzle. I say easy because it has only 5 rings. The more difficult puzzles have 7 or 9 rings. Geduldspiele_04.jpg (20948 Byte)

This puzzle is linked to a nice memory:
Some years ago my father had to stay in hospital and I gave him this puzzle to kill time. He tried several days but couldn't find the solution. When I visited him he asked me: "Are you sure that it works?" and he got the puzzle out if his pocket. ....
And suddenly he had to separate pieces in his hand. I will never forget his face! You spend hours on finding the solution and then it falls in two pieces by itself.

Some other disentanglements.
